Clevedon seafront road changes could cost extra £375k

Independent transport expert Audit West has now concluded that the new layout does not work

Controversial changes made to a seafront look set to be reversed, costing another £375,000.

North Somerset Council introduced a 20mph one-way system and a segregated cycle lane along The Beach in Clevedon last autumn, costing £1.5m.

After residents protested the changes, independent transport expert Audit West has now concluded that the new layout does not work.

A two-way cycle lane would also be removed, with a smaller lane put in on the other side of the road, which will stay one-way.

It is estimated the work would cost £375,000. Initially, the entire scheme was estimated to cost £200,520.

The council will consult the local community, before taking a final decision on whether and when the work may be done.
