A community campaign has raised thousands of pounds to help a school with severe structural problems.

More than £25,000 has been raised so far to help pay for work at the Blue School in Wells, Somerset.

The school closed 20 classrooms after "significant cracking" was found in the concrete floors in December.

Headteacher Mark Woodlock said: "The amount of money raised and the comments from the community have been staggering, it's phenomenal support."

Rachel Sherman, who had two of her children go through the Blue School, set up the fundraiser on Friday evening.

Campaigners want to pay for outdoor shelters for children while the classrooms are closed.

"Initially it was parents, then by Monday morning businesses started donating," she said.

"After lockdown this was the last thing the school needed and we are incredibly grateful for the support," she added.
