Avon and Somerset Police said officers were called out following a "serious" collision
Witnesses are being sought by police after a man died when he was hit by a van.
Officers were called to New Road, Shipham, shortly before 12.15 GMT on Thursday to reports of a critically-injured pedestrian.
Paramedics and the air ambulance attended the scene, as well as officers, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man's next of kin have been offered support by a family liaison officer.
The driver of the van remained at the roadside with officers and inquiries into the cause of the collision are ongoing.
The road was closed for several hours to enable collision investigation work to be conducted but was reopened again in the evening.
Avon and Somerset Police are appealing for witnesses or any motorists with potentially relevant dashcam footage to come forward.
