'Optical illusion' cycle lane in Keynsham to be fixed

Lining work will be carried out to fix an "optical illusion" cycle lane which had caused people to trip up.
Bath and North East Somerset Council installed a new cycle lane on Keynsham High Street in March 2022.
Since then, an estimated 100 people are thought to have tripped on it.
People have described the white road markings as "optical illusions", as the white kerbs and painted white lines look similar.
But under the work, the solid white line which demarks the edge of cycle lane will be replaced with a broken line, to better delineate it from the kerb.
The work follows a road safety report, which recommended the installation of double yellow line markings adjacent to the kerb between the cycle lane and carriageway, to provide an additional cue to pedestrians as they crossed the highway.
The council said it would carry out the work overnight as soon as the weather allowed.
It said it would be carried out under a Temporary Traffic Regulation Notice, to avoid disruption to business and traffic during the day.
Councillor Paul Roper said: "This mitigation should make the change in levels clearer to pedestrians and prevent further trips and falls.
"We are grateful for people's patience while the audit was undertaken and the road safety report compiled, which we are acting on."
