Weston-super-Mare mayor to run solo marathon to support foodbank

The mayor of Weston-super-Mare is running a solo marathon in the town to raise money for a local Foodbank.
Mayor Ciaran Cronnelly will start and finish his race at the Grand Pier on Saturday 2 March.
He has already raised £7,000 for the Weston-super-Mare foodbank to help support those facing food insecurity.
"The foodbank is a lifeline for many residents. Without them, some people in Weston would go hungry," said Mr Cronnelly.
"That's why I'm running this marathon - to raise funds and ensure that our community members have access to the support they need."
Demand for services at the Weston foodbank has surged, according to Weston-super-Mare Town Council.
The Mayor's marathon route will take him through each ward of the parish, making stops at the Landing Light, The Old Manor Inn and The Windsor Castle along the way.
He will be supported by a few members of the RNLI who will join him for a short leg of the race.
Mr Cronnelly has received training assistance from local organisations, including Weston-super-Mare Football Club, Park Run, Weston Athletic Club, Champion gymnasts at Weston Gymnastics Centre, local netball clubs and more.
"Preparing for this marathon has been both physically and mentally demanding," said Mr Cronnelly, who has been training regularly.
"There have been some ups and downs, like a swollen ankle and even a moment where I had to call for a ride home after running too far.
"But the support of the community has been incredible, and it keeps me going."
The mayor has already raised £7,000 for the foodbank through a combination of corporate and personal donations from residents and local businesses.
His goal is to reach £10,000 in donations by the end of the marathon.
