Bath stabbing: Man charged with attempted murder

A man has been charged with attempted murder after a woman was stabbed.

The woman in her 20s remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital after the attack at about 16:20 GMT in Dransfield Way, Bath, on Monday.

Matthew Jones, 28, of Ivy Avenue, in Southdown, has been charged with attempted murder and appeared at Bath Magistrates' Court earlier.

His next appearance will be at Bristol Crown Court on 20 March.

Avon and Somerset Police said the victim's family continue to be supported.

The force said detectives continue to investigate what happened and are currently treating it as an isolated incident, with no evidence of any wider risk to the public.

Police said officers will continue to carry out uniformed reassurance patrols in the area over the coming days and those with concerns are urged to speak with officers.
