Sheffield council reveals details of funding cuts

Sheffield City Council has revealed details of plans for cuts to save an extra £6.5m this year.

The move follows a decision by the government in June to cut that amount from a grant it pays to the council.

About half of the money will come from the department for children, families and schools, with the Connexions advice service seeing its budget cut by £1.2m.

The Local Enterprise Growth Initiative, which helps people start up businesses, will also see its funds drop by £1.2m.

The council is also looking at introducing a pay freeze, unpaid holidays and revised redundancy packages for staff to make longer term savings.

It revealed earlier this month it would have to save an extra £219m over the next four years.
