Work starts on new council homes in Rotherham

Building work has started on two council house sites in Rotherham.

Eight houses and bungalows are being built at Newland Avenue and four apartments are being built at the Stone Park Close site.

The council said the homes would include high energy efficiency measures, making them affordable for tenants to live in.

Other builds are taking place in Canklow, Kilnhurst, Thrybergh and West Melton.

Councillor Jahangir Akhtar said: "To think that these houses, bungalows and apartments will be filled with families in just a few short months can only be a good thing for Rotherham."
