Cannon Hall Museum to dispose of furniture

A museum in Barnsley is disposing of a selection of furniture after it was deemed to be in a poor condition.
Cannon Hall Museum said it would offer other museums the opportunity to rehome the items or sell them at auction if there was no interest.
Barnsley Council approved the proposal after hearing that storage at the hall was "inadequate and very cramped".
The 22 items include a gilt mirror from about 1780 and a variety of mahogany furniture.
The council's cabinet considered a report that said the furniture was unlikely to be displayed again. Collecting such large pieces was also no longer a priority for the council.
Any money raised through the sale of the items will be used to improve the current storage conditions at the museum.
Other items are a walnut chest from about 1680, which has been described as in a "very poor condition", an Egyptian-style sideboard, which is likely to be transferred to another museum, and a console table - the only item to be valued over £5,000.
The total estimated value of the items is £38,785.
