Sheffield grotto for dogs aims to help greyhounds

An animal charity in South Yorkshire is trying to raise funds to care for retired racing greyhounds by opening a Christmas grotto for dogs.

The Sheffield Retired Greyhound Trust is running the grotto at Owlerton Greyhound Stadium in the city on Tuesday.

Linda Cattlin, who works to re-home ex-racing dogs said money raised would help look after the animals.

Ms Cattlin said there would be a "Santa Paws" visit with gifts for pets.

Linda Cattlin said: "Dogs deserve to be spoiled just as much as the rest of the family at Christmas and that's what we're aiming to do.

"We'd like to raise awareness of the Retired Greyhound Trust, as once people have met the greyhounds up for re-homing they can't stay away.

"Although we have to stress the old adage; a dog's not just for Christmas."
