Rotherham officials plan to extend council tax freeze

  • Published

Plans to freeze council tax in Rotherham for a second year running are expected to be approved later this week.

The budget proposals, being considered on Wednesday, also include a 1.15% staff pay offer.

The Labour-run council has to save £63m by 2014. It cut £30m in 2011 and aims to save a further £20m this year.

If the council tax freeze is approved the council will qualify for a one-off government grant of £2.35m.

The budget also recommends a 1.15% cut in councillors' allowances and no staff pay increments.
