A 12-year-old boy injured in a fatal house fire in South Yorkshire has died.

Jack Sykes' father, Darren, 44, and nine-year-old brother Paul were killed in the fire at the house on Tennyson Close, Penistone, on 22 October.

South Yorkshire Police said Jack Sykes died on Monday evening.

Detectives investigating the fire said it was started deliberately and an accelerant was used. The force is not looking for anyone else in connection with the blaze.

'Sad time'

Jo Higgins, principal at Penistone Grammar School which Jack attended, paid tribute to the schoolboy.

"This is an extremely sad time," she said.

"Jack was greatly thought of, a talented musician and a highly valued member of our school community.

"Our thoughts are with Jack's family and friends at this very difficult time."

She said staff and students would will gather on Monday following the half-term break to remember Jack.

Last week Paul, a pupil at Springvale Primary School, was remembered by headteacher Andy Platt as an "outgoing, popular boy who was blossoming into a fine runner and cornet player".
