Gulliver's operates three theme parks including this one in Warrington

The company planning to build a £37m theme park at a former coal mine in South Yorkshire is to hold a series of public meetings over the development.

The Pithouse West opencast colliery site, near Rother Valley Park, was sold by Rotherham Council to the Gulliver's Family Theme Parks firm.

The site is to include a theme park, adventure centre, woodland lodges, a hotel and holiday village.

Six public events are to be held, external at various venues over three days.

Gulliver's plan to create its fourth UK attraction on the 334 acre (135 hectare) site.

Up to 255 full-time equivalent jobs are to be created at the park, according to the company.

The colliery on the Pithouse West site closed in 1985.

The full development is expected to be completed in several phases over a 12-year period.

Gulliver's already operates three family theme parks at Matlock Bath, Warrington and Milton Keynes.
