Rotherham homes evacuated and man held as bomb disposal team called out
- Published
About a dozen homes were evacuated in a street in Rotherham after a bomb disposal team was called to a house.
Officers cordoned off Treefield Close in the Wingfield area of the town, said South Yorkshire Police.
The force urged people to avoid the area and said a 41-year-old man had been arrested.
Explosives disposal specialists, detectives and neighbourhood officers were at the scene after a search warrant was executed.
A bomb disposal robot could also be seen at the location.
Residents of nearby houses told the BBC of their shock and said police had advised them to keep their doors locked and remain indoors.
"It is a bit scary," one woman said.
Treefield Close has since reopened and residents have been allowed to return to their homes.
