More than 1,000 incidents of anti-social behaviour (ASB) have been lodged with Barnsley Council this year, according to a report.

The Local Democracy Reporting Service said the most common complaints involved "neighbour and domestic nuisance", with 366 incidents logged.

According to the report, external, the next most common related to "threatening and intimidating behaviour".

In total, 1,081 incidents have been recorded since January.

The report has been compiled by the Safer Communities Team to examine how reports of ASB are handled and followed up, and will be discussed by the Overview and Scrutiny Committee on 10 October.

It states that services are seeing more serious and complex cases involving drug and alcohol use, or poor mental health, which "adds another layer of complexity to the caseload".

It adds that "broader social and economic challenges also have a direct impact," stating that "tensions and pressures within communities can become more pronounced" among people who are struggling "due to things such as the legacy of COVID and cost of living."
