A teenager was stabbed to death with a curry house knife during a street fight with a friend's mother's ex-partner, a court has heard.

Peshawa Ghaffour, 30, killed Mohammed Iqbal, 17, after attacking him in Sheffield with a blade taken from the restaurant where he had been eating.

Ghaffour, of Birkendale Road, Walkley, was cleared of murder but found guilty of manslaughter after trial.

He was jailed on Friday at Sheffield Crown Court for seven years.

South Yorkshire Police said Ghaffour had had a "heated argument" with his ex-partner while they were eating at a restaurant in Crookes Road on 25 May.

Following the row, Ghaffour's ex then called her two sons to tell them what had happened and, shortly after, one of her children arrived at the scene in a car with Mohammed.

The force said a fight broke out between Ghaffour and Mohammed during which Ghaffour fatally stabbed the teenager with the knife he had taken from the kitchen of the Indian restaurant.

Mohammed was taken to hospital but later died as a result of his injuries.

When officers searched Ghaffour's home they recovered a flick knife and what police described as "a viable taser".

He later pleaded guilty to possession of a prohibited weapon and possession of a bladed article in a private place.

He was found not guilty of a charge of assault by beating at his trial.

Det Ch Insp Joanne Kemp said: "Throughout this investigation, we have been committed to finding justice for Mohammed and his family.

"Mohammed's family have been present throughout the trial and have shown the utmost dignity as they listened to the tragic circumstances of how Mohammed lost his life played out in court.

"Sadly, knife crime continues to take lives both here in South Yorkshire and across the country.

"This must stop, and as a force, we are committed to doing all we can to bring those who carry and use knives to justice."
