Former Sheffield pub The Market Tavern to be demolished after it was deemed unsafe

A former Sheffield city centre pub is to be demolished after it was deemed structurally unsafe.
The discovery was made while work was being carried out to remove asbestos at the Market Tavern.
Further investigations revealed the chimneys were unstable and while they were being removed workers found the entire building was unsafe.
Sheffield City Council said demolition work was due to start in the next few weeks.
While work has been ongoing, a community group which uses the nearby Mudford Building had to temporarily relocate because of the risk posed by the chimneys.
They had since been able to return to the premises, the council said.
Sean McClean, director of regeneration and development at Sheffield City Council, said: "Safety must be our number one priority when it comes to the buildings in Sheffield and unfortunately, we have been left with no option but to demolish the Market Tavern as it has been found to be unsafe."
