Extradited Rotherham child sex assault suspect appears in court

A man has appeared in court charged with indecent assault after being extradited back to the UK.
Shahid Hussain was charged as part of the National Crime Agency's Operation Stovewood in 2018 but fled the country.
Originally from Rotherham, the 48-year-old was arrested in Bulgaria last month after trying to enter the country from Turkey.
After appearing before magistrates on Wednesday he was remanded to appear at Sheffield Crown Court on 19 January.
Mr Hussain is alleged to have assaulted a 14-year-old girl in 2003.
Operation Stovewood, which began in 2014, investigates allegations of non-familial child sexual exploitation in Rotherham between 1997 and 2013.
In November it was announced that from the start of 2024 the inquiry would not start any new investigations.
