Ako Hussain Pur sexually assaulted the girl in her bedroom after being hired to carry out building work

A tradesman who sexually assaulted a six-year-old girl while carrying out work at her family's home has been jailed.

Ako Hussain Pur, 32, had been hired to carry out building work at the home in Sheffield, prosecutors said.

On Friday, at Sheffield Crown Court, Pur, of no fixed address, was sentenced to seven years in prison.

Pur was found guilty of sexual assault of a child under 13 following a four-day trial earlier this month.

Jurors heard the attack happened in the girl's bedroom in June 2023.

After the assault, Pur had told the girl not to tell anyone, the court heard.

When confronted by the girl's father, he denied anything had happened, jurors were told.

'A dangerous man is now behind bars'

Sentencing, Judge Graham Reeds KC stated Pur had lied throughout the case, adding the victim should have been safe in her own home.

After the hearing, Det Con Amy Blakey praised the "tremendous courage" of the victim.

She added: "It is thanks to her bravery and the incredible strength of her family that a dangerous man is now behind bars.

"Nothing can reverse the trauma and harm caused by this serious assault, but I hope that the result brings the victim and her family a certain level of closure."

In addition to the jail term, Pur was issued a lifelong sexual harm prevention order, placed on the sex offenders register and told he must serve an additional year on licence after his release.
