Dinnington: New banking hub set to open following campaign
- Published
A new banking hub is set to open in a Rotherham town after a number of banks closed their branches in the area.
Several have shut in Dinnington and nearby Wickersley over the past few years due to challenges faced across the industry.
Residents and politicians in the area had campaigned for a hub to enable people to continue to access banking services in person.
The hub is expected to open in 2025, with its location yet to be confirmed.
A counter service will be run by the Post Office and different banks will take turns in running a daily service, which includes cash deposits and withdrawals as well as face-to-face inquiry services.
The hubs are delivered by not-for-profit firm Cash Access UK, which is owned by nine major banks.
Alexander Stafford, MP for Rother Valley said he had been working with Link and Cash Access UK to ensure customers would have access "to the banking services they need".
He added: "This banking hub, alongside the £12 million to rejuvenate the high street given to us by the government, will do a world of good towards that goal."
