Princess Anne opens Burton-upon-Trent brewery centre

The Princess Royal has officially opened the new Staffordshire-based National Brewery Centre.

The facility in Burton-upon-Trent includes the former Bass Museum and visitor attraction which has now reopened as The Brewing Experience.

Princess Anne, who was 60 last month, also visited Newcastle-under-Lyme to officially open a new customer service centre at Kidsgrove Town Hall.

She toured Kidsgrove Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) inside the centre.

The princess is patron of the National Association of Citizens Advice Bureaux.

Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council unveiled the combined facility in April after a £160,000 refurbishment. The council teamed up with the CAB and Staffordshire County Council to provide a range of services.

The National Brewery Centre celebrates the UK's brewing heritage.

Speaking about the visit, Mike Stickland, chairman of Planning Solutions Ltd, the firm responsible for the centre, said: "This will certainly bring further awareness to this valuable heritage centre."

The site of the brewery centre was the home of the Coors Visitor Centre, which closed in 2008.

The princess has said she would not curb her busy lifestyle, having attended more than 600 engagements last year.

As well as backing many charities, she is on the organising committee for London's 2012 Olympics.
