Stafford Hospital timeline - the story of a scandal

This timeline takes a look at the history of the campaign by the Cure The NHS group and others to gain a full public inquiry into the failings at Stafford Hospital.

In November 2007, Stafford resident Julie Bailey set up the Cure The NHS campaign group after her mother Bella died in Stafford Hospital.

After three years of campaigning, it finally gained its aim - a public inquiry was gained.

An earlier investigation by NHS watchdog, the Healthcare Commission, concluded that hundreds more people had died at Stafford Hospital between 2005 and 2008 than should have been expected. It said the hospital's "appalling" emergency care resulted in patients dying needlessly.

Our timeline looks at some of the key events since 2007 up to and including the public inquiry which started in November 2010.
