Rugeley police station could move into council building

Rugeley's police station could move into a council building, police said.

The station is one of nine Staffordshire police bases facing closure in favour of alternative community sites.

Cannock Chase District Council has said it is investigating the potential for sharing a building in the town.

A council spokesman said the police's announcement did not mean offices were about to move out of the town.

Staffordshire Police has said it is finding ways to save £22m over the next two years. The budget for 2011/12 has been set at £189m.
