RAF medical staff at National Memorial Arboretum

More than 100 Royal Air Force medical personnel have attended a ceremony to dedicate a memorial in Staffordshire.

The initiative at the National Memorial Arboretum is in remembrance of those who have served as RAF medical staff on operations around the world since 1918.

The service on Thursday afternoon started with a flypast of a Hawk jet from the Centre of Aviation Medicine, RAF Henlow, Bedfordshire.

The RAF Medical Services has about 1,800 personnel.

The arboretum site at Alrewas, which commemorates fallen servicemen and women, has 50,000 maturing trees and more than 200 memorials.

A fundraising scheme to redevelop it is halfway towards a target of £8m. The project includes building a new entrance, visitor centre and education centre.
