A £14m expansion of the Potteries Shopping Centre is being planned for Stoke-on-Trent.

Its owners, Capital Shopping Centres, want to expand the existing complex by building a new leisure development with six restaurants and a multiplex cinema.

If the plans are approved it will open in Hanley at the end of 2013, creating more than 200 jobs.

Plans for the complex, which would be called The Avenue, are expected to go before the city council next month.

It would be built next to the multi-storey car park of the Potteries Centre.

Paul Francis, the centre's general manager, said: "The plans are available now in the centre for people to see. We want to showcase it to the public.

"One of the great strengths of this city is its location... there's a huge catchment area that really is untapped.

"This is complimentary to our centre and really supports what this city is looking to do over the next few years."
