Tamworth rose garden to celebrate Queen's Diamond Jubilee

A new rose garden is going to be planted at a Staffordshire tourist attraction to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

The garden will be created at the Castle Grounds in Tamworth and will be shaped like a crown with 200 red rose bushes.

Tamworth Borough Council said it would feature walkways and have seating in the centre.

It said work would start on the new garden in February.

The Heart of England rose bushes would be planted in March so that they would be in full bloom in time for the celebrations in June, the council said.

Councillor John Garner, cabinet member for the environment, said the Diamond Jubilee was a "historic occasion" and they wanted to create something which would be a "permanent memorial".

The council said it was now looking for a sponsor for the garden which will be built next to the bowling green.
