Horse 'attacked with knife' in Stoke-on-Trent put down

A horse has been put down and another is being treated for injuries after being attacked in Stoke-on-Trent.

Owner the Woodstock Stable Trust said it believed the horses had been injured with a Stanley knife on Wednesday in Gill Bank Road, Goldenhill.

They said one horse had had its ear cut and, because its injuries were so severe, it had had to be destroyed.

The other had two cuts to its throat and was treated for its injuries before being moved to another stable.

Liam Cooper, from the Woodstock Stable Trust, said: "The vet believed they'd been attacked with something like a Stanley knife or a straight sharp object which gave a clean cut."

"They're just two retired horses and we can't understand why anybody would want to do that to them."

Staffordshire police are investigating the incident.
