A total of 99% of the first students to receive their GCSEs at the JCB Academy in Staffordshire have received grades A* to C.

The £22m academy in Rocester opened in September 2010, taking in 170 students from Staffordshire and Derbyshire.

The core focus is on engineering with pupils, aged 14 to 19, also studying maths, English, science and German.

David Bell, vice-chairman of governors at the academy, said he was "thrilled" with the results.
