Driver rescued from Stourton floods

A woman has been rescued from flood water after becoming trapped in her car.

West Midlands Fire Service said crews were called to the A458, Bridgnorth Road, in Stourton, just before 08:00 BST.

The woman was unharmed.

A flood warning has been issued, external on the Lyme Brook in Newcastle-under-Lyme and Trent Vale after heavy rain. It includes Hatrell Street, Brook Lane and Lyme Valley Road.

The Environment Agency said more than 15mm of rain had fallen in the area in 24 hours and the river was rising quickly.

There are also a series of flood warnings across Staffordshire, including on the River Sow, between Coven and Stafford and on low-lying roads between Leek and Rocester on the River Churnet.

Alerts are also in place for the River Stour and Smestow Brook in South Staffordshire, as well as the River Trent, Lyme Brook and Ford Green Brook in Stoke-on-Trent.
