Lorry goes through central reservation in Staffordshire M6 crash
- Published
A lorry careered through the central reservation of the M6 after colliding with another HGV and a car.
The crash led to long delays on both sides of the motorway in Staffordshire for most of the day.
The northbound carriageway is to remain closed overnight between junction 15, for Stoke-on-Trent, and 16, for Newcastle-under-Lyme.
National Highways said a lane was also closed southbound, with long delays on the approach.
West Midlands Ambulance Service said one of the lorry drivers had been hurt and taken to Royal Stoke University hospital. The other lorry driver and the man driving the car did not require hospital treatment.
The service originally said the car driver had been injured and taken to hospital, but later corrected its statement.
Vehicles were turned from the back of the queue as the road was closed due to a significant spillage of diesel and hydraulic fluid.
Rady Salim, from National Highways, said: "We're working closely with police colleagues while they carry out work on scene and we'd encourage motorists to leave additional time for their journeys."
Emergency road resurfacing work is being carried out overnight, National Highways added.
Staffordshire Fire and Rescue crews from Hanley, Longton and Newcastle had attended, as did paramedics and Staffordshire Police.
Amendment 25 January 2022: This story has been updated to correct the information issued by West Midlands Ambulance Service about which of the drivers was injured and required hospital treatment.
