Ambulance paramedics arrived to find the driver of one car in a critical condition

A man has died and two people have been taken to hospital following a two-car crash.

Paramedics were called to Ashbourne Road in Winkhill, Staffordshire, on Monday after a blue Mini Cooper and a red Fiat collided.

The driver of the Mini, a man in his 40s, was freed from the car but died at the scene, paramedics said.

A woman in her 50s and a 17-year-old girl in the Fiat were taken to hospital for further assessment.

The man's next of kin have been informed of his death and are being supported by specially-trained officers, Staffordshire Police says.

Any witnesses or drivers with dash cam footage of the crash, which occurred at about 18:30 GMT, are asked to contact the force.
