M6 shuts after car falls from bridge near Sandbach
- Published
The M6 was closed near Congleton, after a car fell from a bridge on to the motorway.
The vehicle was on the A534 Congleton Road and landed on the northbound carriageway, close to junction 17, just before 13:10 BST.
The driver suffered non life-threatening injuries, officers said, and was airlifted to hospital.
Although the motorway reopened during the afternoon, delays remained more than four hours after the crash.
The northbound carriageway was reopened at about 15:30, although two out of the four lanes remained closed and queues were still about six miles long two hours later.
The A534 was closed while the barrier was assessed.
