An opening date has been announced for Stoke-on-Trent's new main library after the former site closed in July.

City Central Library would be open to the public on 23 October at its new base at Two Smithfield, Hanley, the city council said.

The £1.5m move will include a dedicated children's area and a new mezzanine floor for extra space.

People have been directed to the city's other libraries since the closure on 29 July.

Archives have been moved to The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery and will be open there from spring 2024.

Designs have been previously revealed for the multimillion-pound redevelopment of City Central Library's original Bethesda Street building, which will be turned into 96 apartments, a gym and nursery facilities.
