Man sustains life-threatening injuries in Tamworth crash

A man has been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after a crash in Tamworth on Wednesday night.

The crash happened at about 22:30 GMT, in Coppice Lane, Middleton, West Midlands Ambulance Service said. No other vehicle was involved.

The man, who was a passenger in the car, was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in a critical condition.

The car driver sustained injuries not believed to be serious but she was later taken to Good Hope Hospital.

Two ambulances, a paramedic officer, and a MERIT trauma doctor and critical care paramedic were also called to the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "Upon arrival we found a woman and a man who were the driver of and a passenger in the car.

"The man who was the passenger in the car was assessed by ambulance staff and had sustained life-threatening injuries.

"He received advanced trauma care from ambulance staff at the scene and was conveyed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further treatment.

"The woman who was the driver of the car was assessed by ambulance staff at the scene and had sustained injuries not believed to be serious."
