Cheshire East Council has confirmed Rob Polkinghorne as its new permanent chief executive.

He was officially appointed to the post at a full council meeting on Wednesday, and will start on 3 January

He was most recently chief executive of Southend-on-Sea City Council in Essex, but left that role in June.

He said local authorities, including Cheshire East, faced challenges but added that this provided an opportunity to do things differently.

Council leader Sam Corcoran said the authority would be looking to Mr Polkinghorne, who has worked in local government since 1996, to bring stability and new ideas.
