A man has died after being pulled from a lake by police in Staffordshire.

The victim was rescued from the water minutes before ambulance crews arrived at Slitting Mill Road in Slitting Mill, Rugeley at about 10:15 GMT.

He initially received life support from the police officers before paramedics took over, but died at the scene, close to The Horns pub.

The pub, which shares its grounds with the lake, said out of respect it would not be opening until 17:00 GMT.

In a post on social media, the pub said: "Due to an incident today at the lake that we share our grounds with, we are currently remaining closed for the police."

Staffordshire Police, whose officers rescued the man, said the death was not suspicious.
