A woman has embarked on 12 ultra marathon challenges that she aims to complete in less than two weeks.

Lisa Foster, from Meir Park, is walking 317 miles from Stoke-on-Trent to Fife, to raise awareness of pancreatic cancer in memory of her mother.

Ms Foster, whose mother Jean Bruce died from the disease 12 years ago, hopes to complete the challenge by 13 February.

She also hopes to raise £3,000 for the Pancreatic Cancer UK charity.

Over the course of 13 days, her destination is Kirkcaldy Fire Station, where a memorial tree is planted in honour of Mrs Bruce, who worked as a nurse.

"It was very short notice when mum passed away, we were told she would have 18 months and she passed away within eight weeks - it was a shock to the system," said Ms Foster.

"Pancreatic cancer is vicious, it's misdiagnosed so much, which is what happened with mum, she was misdiagnosed for two years and when it was caught it was too late.

"I wanted to do this to raise awareness and as much money as I can for charity."

Her fiance Carl Vickers said: "I think she's absolutely barking mad. A lot of people think it's just a short walk or a long walk - but to put it into context it's over 50,000 steps a day sustained for effectively 320 miles."
