Woman in 70s dies in Staffordshire house fire

A woman has died in a house fire in Staffordshire.

Emergency services received reports of smoke coming out of a home on James Street, Leek, at about 22:20 GMT on Saturday.

The woman, in her 70s, was found unresponsive in an upstairs room after Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service forced entry into the property.

"Our thoughts are very much with her family and friends at this tragic and difficult time," the service said.

Staffordshire Police said it was working with fire investigators to determine the cause of the blaze.
