Latitude Festival names 2011 acts and commits to future

Suede split in 2003 but got back together seven years later

The National, Paolo Nutini and Suede will headline the main stage at Latitude Festival 2011 in Suffolk.

Foals, Bright Eyes, Wanda Jackson, Dave Gorman, Alexei Sayle and Simon Armitage will also perform during the weekend of 14-17 July.

It will be the sixth year the festival of music and arts has taken place at Henham Park, near Southwold.

Festival Republic told BBC Suffolk that it had signed up to host the festival at the site for a further 15 years.

Melvin Benn, managing director of Festival Republic, said the commitment would allow him to invest in the site.

"I'm looking to make the main bridge across the lake permanent, add a second bridge, make the arena bigger, and we're drilling four new boreholes into the ground to give an ample supply of fresh water," he said.

"It's a very big commitment but I always said from the moment that I stood on the site, I felt we were in a place where Latitude would find its home and I wanted Latitude to be there for a very long time to come."

Variety of music

Jon Dunn is responsible for booking the 80 artists to perform on three of the four music stages.

"The ideal thing for me would be for someone, say 16 years old, come see a new band like the Vaccines and then go and see Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark and absolutely love it - and vice versa," he said.

Scala & Kolacny Brothers will play the midday slot on Sunday, following in the footsteps of Joanna Newsom, Thom Yorke and Tom Jones.

BBC Radio 1 DJ Huw Stephens will return to curate the Lake Stage and has asked BBC Introducing in Suffolk to nominate three more local acts to play.

James Spankie, The B. Goodes and These Are End Times were selected.

Elsewhere on site, there will be a new area dedicated to entertaining teenagers and the Faraway Forest will be expanded.

Tania Harrison oversees the non-music acts at Latitude.

"BAFTA are bringing Rob Brydon and Steve Coogan, we've got Omid Djalili in the comedy arena, BAC are doing a site-specific show over the weekend, the Bush are doing a strange and dark piece at midnight, we've got a Narnia-esque Winter's Ball - quite a few different things this year," she said.
