Worshippers pray to end farmers drought in Suffolk

Worshippers in communities across Suffolk have been asked to pray for rain for farmers whose crops are affected by the dry weather.

Large parts of southern Britain are suffering from drought conditions following a hot dry April.

The Centre for Ecology and Hydrology said March and April had the lowest recorded rainfall since 1938.

The Rev Canon Sally Fogden, from the St Edmundsbury and Ipswich Diocese, said farmers must be remembered in prayers.

The agricultural chaplain said: "The outlook for the grain harvest is, at present quite worrying with the possibility of shortages and a knock-on increase in prices, which will affect us all.

"We want to let farmers know the local church community is praying for them."
