Long Melford antiques shop damaged in ram-raid

Burglars have used a vehicle to smash their way into an antiques shop in Suffolk and steal jewellery.

Police were called to the shop in Little St Mary's, Long Melford, early on Wednesday morning.

Officers said a blue minibus was used by the men who set fire to it and abandoned it nearby on Liston Lane just across the Essex border.

They are then thought to have transferred to a getaway vehicle. Police will look at CCTV images later.

Det Insp David Giles said: "We will be examining CCTV later today and liaising with the shop owner to establish how much jewellery was stolen.

"A substantial amount of damage has been caused to the shop and to display cabinets.

"We will also be looking to identify the transfer vehicle, locating this and then arresting those people behind this crime."
