Drivers are being told to expect delays as work begins to repair a broken sewer near the Bascule Bridge in Lowestoft.

Anglian Water says it is carrying out £130,000 of repairs on the sewer beneath Station Square.

The middle lane of the A12 at Station Square will be closed, meaning traffic cannot turn right onto Waveney Road.

The work is expected to take up to five weeks. Diversions will be in place at Katwijk Way, Artillery Way, Old Nelson Street and Battery Green Road.

Antony Innes, from Anglian Water, said the sewer was five metres below the road.

He said: "We understand that this work will cause some disruption and we are sorry for that.

"However, the consequences of not acting to repair this sewer do not bear thinking about."
