Latitude Festival 2012: Weller, Elbow and Bon Iver to headline

The Latitude Festival takes place at Henham Park near the Blyth Estuary

Paul Weller, Elbow and Bon Iver will be the headline acts at the 2012 Latitude Festival in Suffolk.

They will close the evenings on the main stage at Henham Park near Southwold on the weekend of 12-15 July.

Classical pianist Lang Lang will be making his first outdoor festival appearance, while Professor Brian Cox presents BBC Radio 4's science programme The Infinite Monkey Cage.

Comedy acts include Jack Dee, Tim Minchin and Reginald D Hunter.

Lang Lang, who has recently performed for the US president at the White House, will be appearing on the Waterfront Stage.

'Economic benefits'

Melvin Benn, festival director, said: "This year's line-up will once again see a bill of sensational artists at the peak of their careers.

"Having someone like Lang Lang is a major event for any festival for what is, in effect, the first classical pianist to have a headline slot.

"I did an economic impact study in 2010 and the immediate area is said to benefit from around £12m, which is pretty significant and the economic benefits are quite real."

Among other acts performing is Thomas Dolby, who lives nearby on the Suffolk coast.

Appearing in the literature, poetry and film tents are Scottish author Iain Banks, graphic novel writer Alan Moore and punk-poet John Cooper Clarke.

Other musical acts will be Bat For Lashes, Metronomy, Laura Marling, Richard Hawley, Janelle Morae, Simple Minds and Daryl Hall.

BBC Introducing will again be curating the Lake Stage and one act a day will be chosen by theBBC Suffolk team.
