HMS Ganges Association: Arrest in deception probe
- Published
A 53-year-old man has been arrested after thousands of pounds went missing from an association of Royal Navy veterans who served in Suffolk.
The man, from Uxbridge, west London, was questioned on suspicion of obtaining money by deception from the HMS Ganges Association.
The group has more than 3,000 members previously based at the former training base in Shotley Gate, near Ipswich.
The man was arrested on Wednesday and released on bail until 26 October.
In a newsletter, the association said it was in a "dire" financial situation and had lost about £65,000.
The investigation is being led by Hampshire police after a complaint was lodged in the county.
