Solar panel farm plans at Parham airfield and Hacheston

Plans to build a solar panel farm in Suffolk have been submitted by an energy company.

AGRenewables of London and Great Glemham Farms want to create the 75 acre (30 hectare) farm on the former Parham Airfield.

The company said the panels would generate 15 megawatts of electricity, which is enough for 4,600 homes.

Suffolk Coastal District Council is expected to consider the proposal later this year.

Argus Hardy, from Great Glemham Farms, said: "We have worked hard to design a layout that raises no significant environmental impacts, provides new hedgerows, scrubland planting and species-rich grassland, which we will be grazing with our own Alde Valley flock."

The council is also due to consider a planning application for a larger solar panel project nearby.

Hive Energy wants a 25 megawatt development at Church Farm in Hacheston covering a 127 acre (51 hectare) site.

The council's closing date for consultation responses is 31 October for Hacheston and 7 November for Great Glemham.
