Kesgrave Hall School mistreatment allegation investigated

An allegation of mistreatment at a former boarding school in Suffolk has been made to police.

Police first investigated abuse claims at Kesgrave Hall School, near Ipswich, two decades ago. It closed in 1993.

No charges were brought but the police have since been asked to reopen the investigation by Dan Poulter, MP for Central Suffolk and North Ipswich.

The latest allegation is thought to relate to bullying, rather than physical or sexual abuse.

Kesgrave Hall, which is now the site of a hotel and restaurant, was a privately-owned school for pupils with behavioural problems.

Children were placed there by local education authorities.

The police said a former pupil, who lives elsewhere in the UK, had provided a report to his local force and it had now been passed on to Suffolk.

A police spokesperson said: "Suffolk Police continue to review the information surrounding the investigation of alleged abuse at Kesgrave Hall Boarding School.

"Any reports of abuse of any kind linked to this case or any other will be treated very seriously and thoroughly investigated."

Suffolk Police have located the archived files relating to the investigation carried out in 1992.
