Broomhill Open Air Swimming Pool opened on 30 April, 1938. It was closed by Ipswich Borough Council in 2002 and remained closed on its 75th birthday on 30 April 2013.

The 50m long Olympic-sized pool had a new grandstand which was opened in 1938. Its deep end was 5m and it had a range of diving boards up to 5m high.

After closure, weeds sprung up. Fusion Lifestyle said reopening the pool would cost up to £5m. Fusion aimed to provide £1m and an application for the rest of the funding would be made to the Heritage Lottery Fund.

After break-ins and vandalism, the council added extra fencing and a metal pool covering in 2008. A council spokesperson said it was involved in discussions with Fusion and was waiting to hear its latest plans.
