The new Bishop of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich has been enthroned at Bury St Edmunds Cathedral.

The Right Reverend Martin Seeley formally took up his position in Suffolk following his consecration as a bishop at Westminster Abbey last month. Some 900 people attended the service.

The cathedral dean said bishops should "challenge injustice".

Bishop Seeley, 61, said it was important for him to "be a bearer of people's stories".

Bishop Seeley said: "It's a very diverse county and it's part of my job to be a bearer of people's stories.

"I want to ensure that whatever the issue is, we start from a position of respect and regard.

"However much we may alarmingly disagree with someone, the first point is that they bear the presence of Christ and we must recognise that that connects us."
