A beautician's jealous ex-boyfriend plotted to have his former partner stabbed in the face and later doused in sulphuric acid, a court has heard.

Adele Bellis, 22, who was "proud of her appearance and looks" lost an ear, and is partially bald after the attack.

Her former partner, Anthony Riley, 26, has gone on trial, along with co-defendant, Leon Thompson, 39.

Witnesses reported seeing smoke coming from Miss Bellis's skin at the incident at a Lowestoft bus stop last year.

The beautician was in hospital for three weeks and has since undergone skin grafts and facial reconstruction. Surgery is likely to continue throughout her life, Ipswich Crown Court heard.

Prosecutor Andrew Jackson said the acid attack, in August 2014, was the culmination of a six-month campaign by Mr Riley.

He had allegedly previously arranged for co-defendant Leon Thompson, 39, to stab Miss Bellis in the face and posted a revenge porn sex video on Facebook in a bid to humiliate her, the prosecutor said.

Mr Jackson said: "After their relationship ended, Mr Riley became consumed with jealousy at the prospect of her becoming involved with another man."

Miss Bellis had worked on cruise ships and as a beautician, was "proud of her appearance and looks", he said.

Mr Riley is alleged to have organised for Mr Thompson to stab Miss Bellis in the street on April 29.

Later, it is said he hired Jason Harrison, who owed him money, to carry out the acid attack on August 14. Jurors learned Harrison had already admitted his part in the conspiracy.

Mr Riley, of Raglan Street, Lowestoft, denies false imprisonment, conspiracy to apply a corrosive liquid and conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm with intent.

Mr Thompson, of Alma Road, Lowestoft, denies wounding with intent, having a knife in public, conspiracy to apply a corrosive liquid and conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm with intent.
