A man has been arrested after his car, with his baby daughter inside, was involved in a crash with a freight train at a railway crossing.

According to Sgt Julian Ditcham of Suffolk Police, the driver drove around the barriers while they were down.

British Transport Police said two adults and a 16-month-old baby were "all safe" but were sent to hospital to be checked for injuries.

The crash at Thorpe Lane, Trimley St Martin, happened at about 11:15 BST.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and other related offences, Sgt Ditcham said.

The road was closed and Greater Anglia trains said services between Ipswich and Felixstowe were still suspended.
